Study in Canada

One of the clearest permanent residency pathways for international graduates.

Overview

Canada continues to attract Indian students with its Post-Graduation Work Permit and Express Entry pathway to permanent residency — though the rules have tightened. The Student Direct Stream has been discontinued, and diploma/certificate PGWP eligibility now depends on studying in a designated labour-shortage field. Master's and PhD students remain exempt from this restriction.

Why students choose Canada

  • Clear, well-documented pathway from study permit to PGWP to permanent residency via Express Entry
  • Master's and PhD graduates get a 3-year PGWP regardless of field of study
  • Open work permits available for spouses of eligible students
  • Genuinely multicultural campuses with large, established Indian student communities in most major cities

Eligibility & documents

Academic transcripts, English or French proficiency, a Provincial Attestation Letter, proof of funds (~CAD 20,635/year for living costs), and — for diploma/certificate applicants — a program in a designated PGWP-eligible field.
